After the official announcement of a Talent Show printed on flyers was released, the day finally arrived. On April 16, 2024, Williamsburg Preparatory officially had its spring talent show. Various talents, such as singing and dancing were showcased. Some repeat performers came on stage and shared their talents once again.
Bismark Valasquez emceed the event, this being his third year guiding it. He felt that this opportunity was important to him as an aspiring actor himself.
He said, “I feel school spirit is strongly needed. This is something that all these talented members are going to remember, and to be a part of that is something so beautiful.”
Before the returning performer Christian Lora hit the stage, he shared his excitement and nerves about performing again.
“I’m pretty nervous. This is my last show, so there’s a lot going on on that stage, but I’m excited to do it, and I think it’ll be a good surprise,” shared Lora.
Lora performed Fast Car by Tracy Chapman. He shared how he was inspired by his prior play of this song in guitar class.
“I started to play it again because it was a fun song to play to myself, and the rest of the class heard it, and Mr. Benoit thought it sounded really good.”
Lora felt that when the talent show was announced, it felt like the perfect song choice to perform.
Many other single acts were showcased, along with the duo of partners Ri Jones and Robert Serpe. Ri sang to “Yellow” by Coldplay while her partner, Serpe, performed along on the piano.
They practiced for days on end, trying to perfect their act. Serpe shared how exciting it was to hear the cheering crowd.
“It was scary, but there’s nothing more satisfying than a cheering crowd,” she shared.
A group of dancers as well joined the stage and filled the auditorium with cheers. One of the dancers who chose to stay anonymous shared some thoughts.
“It was really exciting. I was really scared at first, but once the crowd started hyping up, I was ecstatic.”
In the end, the audience cheered one last time and were dismissed to their classes.
