Ariana Grande’s new album “ Eternal sunshine” was released on March 8th, capturing a glimpse into Grande’s personal life and past relationships.
This is our review:
Between the two of us the album managed to generate 7.5 out of 10. The album had a few incredible standout songs, but many have fallen flat and didn’t really catch the ear.
The album had an obvious theme that kept us listening to all 13 tracks. The album told a story about one of Ariana’s past relationships. It’s speculated to be about Mac Miller, who she dated from 2016-18 before his tragic death in 2018. There are many different easter eggs that could be linked to Ariana and Mac’s relationship. Such as, The dog at the end of the We Can’t Be Friends music video which could be hinting at how Ariana adopted Mac’s dog, Myron, after Mac Died or her makeup in the music video slightly resembling Mac Miller’s The Divine Feminine album cover.
The album also took heavy inspiration from the movie “ Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind” Mostly, the We Can’t Be Friends music video. In the video Ariana attempts to Erase her memory from a previous relationship which is the premise of the movie. While having the procedure done to forget for good, she has a rush of memories of her and her previous partner who is portrayed by Evan Peters. She specifically remembers her partner giving her a necklace. She immediately jumps up from the chair and mouths “Can I keep this one?” While reaching for her necklace. Eventually, after having her memory completely erased, The necklace is traded in for a dog collar for the dog Ariana now has, The dog that is assumed to be Myron.
We asked WP Junior, Ryan Santos how he feels about the album and he had to say “I think the album Eternal Sunshine by Ariana Grande is a reflection of human nature when facing something like a breakup. She starts to reflect more on the relationship and how she feels, switching from lust to the idea of love, and how even though it’s over it’s still difficult to process.”
The standout songs of the album for me and Chloe included.
- True story: The song’s rhythm, flow and repetitive lyrics make a perfect combo for a catchy track. The song gives an insight into what it was like for her to be played and how she doesn’t want the toxicity nor the immaturity of a relationship and rather wants genuine true love. In my opinion this was the best song in the album just due to the flow and rhythm itself.
- The Boy is Mine: The 90s style of the song brings a new energy to the album that is only seen in this song. It’s also the only song where Ariana seems to reclaim her confidence and have fun with this upbeat and catchy tune.
